The Annual Conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI)

The RFK Human Rights Spain Foundation at the Annual Conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI).

The prestigious Annual Conference 2023, organized by the Association of Human Rights Institutes and the Padre Arrupe Human Rights Institute of Deusto, this year featured a talk by the President of the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Human Rights Spain Foundation, María Díaz de la Cebosa.

The event, which took place from September 7 to 9 on the Bilbao campus of the University of Deusto, brought together more than 80 human rights institutes from around the world, with the participation of more than 200 experts and researchers.

The central theme of the annual conference was "Human rights defense in the spotlight." This focus takes on special relevance in 2023, marking the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). The main objective of the event is to promote debate, the exchange of experiences and the identification of good practices that help strengthen the protection and promotion of all human rights in an increasingly uncertain global context.

María Díaz de la Cebosa, president of the RFK Human Rights Spain Foundation, delivered a talk titled "Speak Truth to Power: an interactive method to build human rights literacy among young people."

In it, she discussed the "Speak Truth to Power" (STTP) program that RFK Human Rights delivers in schools and universities, highlighting two key concepts: interactive methodology and human rights literacy. The goals of this program are to train young people committed to the defense of human rights who can make a difference in their communities, and to promote a culture of human rights defense in their respective educational institutions.

The President of RFK Human Rights Spain also presented the creation of an accreditation for schools that uphold and spread the Foundation's values, and the search for new audiences to expand the program.

María Díaz de la Cebosa also highlighted the importance of ethics in the use of artificial intelligence in education, seeking to enrich human rights literacy in the digital age.
